In 1250 the village appears as Valegium in the list of Pavia's lands; before that it had belonged, from the tenth century, to the monastery of San Salvatore. Then it passed to the counts Albonese, who perhaps descended from the counts palatine of Lomello, and in 1487 count Gualtiero made an exchange: he gave Valeggio to Luigi Arcimboldi of Milan and took Sabbione instead.
In 1708 the fief went to Pietro Quintana of Milan, and his name has stayed with the Quintana farmstead. The castle is still there: a trapezoidal plan, three towers, two round and one square, with corbels. At the beginning of the twentieth century three families of the village, the Borra, the de Candia and the Serra, left for Argentina.
