The old centre is still the medieval one, closed by fourteenth-century walls and a few towers. In the surrounding country, though, at least two castles have vanished: that of Cardine, which survives in the name of a district, and the Sismondo castle, which in the thirteen hundreds was still an armed stronghold. Pope Eugene IV gave it in 1445 to a man of Ascoli who had served the Apostolic See well, and two years later the city of Fermo bought it; then it disappeared, but it went on being drawn on maps until 1817. Outside the village, on the bank of the Tennacola, the Brunforte mill still stands, and it is thirteenth-century.
Beside the parish church is the library holding more than five thousand volumes that belonged to Romolo Murri, the priest and politician at the origin of the Christian democratic movement; the archive is open to scholars. The bell tower is fourteenth-century, but its mechanical clock was fitted in 1850, made by Pietro Mei of Montecarotto. The trade of the village is wicker and rattan core, worked into furniture. The earthquake of 2016 left its mark above all here in the old centre.
