Feast of Saint Blaise
📅 Every year, on 3 February
On 3 February Monte Cerignone celebrates its patron Saint Blaise; in July the Giornate Medioevali take place with the «Palio dell'Uovo».
Monte Cerignone is in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, but it belongs to historical Romagna and to the Montefeltro: a border village in every sense, which even owns an exclave, the hamlet of Valle di Teva, wedged between four comuni and itself bordering the exclave of Tavoleto. The name is very old — Mons Ceregnus, or Cigunus, already to be read in Polybius and Strabo — and some derive it from the goddess Ceres, to whom a temple is said to have stood up here, and others from the cirri plants.
The village is mentioned in 962 as a possession of Ulderico of Carpegna, and in the twelfth century the Montefeltro fortified it. The fortress you see today it owes, however, to Federico da Montefeltro, who in 1478 had it rebuilt by Francesco di Giorgio Martini, the Sienese architect who redesigned half his duchy. On the far bank of the Conca, the sanctuary of Santa Maria in Reclauso stands where a temple to Juno once was. And there is a surprising detail: in this village of a few hundred people the Pascucci coffee roasting works has had its head office since 1883.
