On 24 September Pesaro celebrates its patron Saint Terentius; the city is also the birthplace of composer Gioachino Rossini, honoured every summer since 1980 with the Rossini Opera Festival.

The patron of Pesaro is Saint Terentius, celebrated on 24 September; a painting of him by Terenzio Terenzi once hung in the church of Sant'Ubaldo, in Largo Mamiani.

Pesaro is the birthplace of composer Gioachino Rossini: his house-museum, the conservatory, the theatre and the national museum dedicated to him all bear his name, and since 1980 the city has hosted the Rossini Opera Festival every summer.
