Feast of Saint Sixtus
📅 Every year, on 6 August
On 6 August Colle d'Anchise, a municipality of 802 inhabitants in the province of Campobasso, celebrates its patron Saint Sixtus (san Sisto).
The village used to be called Cornachisio, then Coraccisi: names that sounded bad, and at some point someone tidied them into Anchise, like the father of Aeneas. On the coat of arms, though, there is no Trojan: there is a half-naked man sitting on a rock, blowing a horn.
The little church of Santa Margherita was put up over a Samnite temple, and it kept the temple's columns inside. Of the real castle, higher up, there remain a tower cut in two, a piece of gateway and two wells. The first document of the fief is from 1314, but it was the Lombards who founded the place. There are 802 residents.
