The pulpit in the church of the Assunta is thirteenth-century and has no equal in Molise: among the carved vine tendrils are two little figures harvesting grapes, and from a mask in one corner more tendrils spread out. On the portal, of 1200, a bird pecks at food in the lunette.
The bell tower, they used to say, could be seen thirty miles off; lightning brought it down in 1658. The Carafa castle was rebuilt between 1498 and 1506, after the earthquake: it has two cylindrical towers, one of them called del Giurato. The town of 3,287 residents first appears in 953 as loco Firaciani. From here, in 1887, the great-grandparents of Robert De Niro left for America.
