On the last Sunday of carnival the Months come out: thirty-two characters, all men, riding donkeys and horses — the century, the year, the twelve months and the four seasons — with bodices loaded with gold that weigh up to two kilos. The rhymes are handed down by voice, and the first certain dates are from 1918.

The village, 685 residents, was called Quaercus Minor, and an oak still stands on its coat of arms: the Maior is Cercemaggiore, the other half of the same story. In 1571 the Carafa built the square ducal palace; beside it, the parish church remade in 1950 kept its thirteenth-century bell tower.

Saint Donatus, patron of one of the two towns born from the «Oak»

📅 Every year, on 7 August

Cercepiccola celebrates Saint Donatus on 7 August; the town, whose name recalls the ancient Quaercus Maior and Quaercus Minor, was a fief of several noble families until the Carafa, who had the current ducal palace built there in 1571.
