Solero

Province: Alessandria · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,660 · Postal code: 15029

On the Tanaro's left bank, Solero belonged to the abbey of Saint-Martin of Tours, which in the tenth century brought here the relics of Saint Perpetuus, bishop of Tours after Martin; still kept in the parish church named for him. Saint Bruno, the patron, was born here in 1048, and in 1168 Solero was one of the villages that founded Alessandria.

Under Savoy from the early eighteenth century, Solero was a Guasco fief; they built the castle, which passed to the Faà di Bruno through a marriage with the last marquis's daughter. Its brick tower still rises over the park lawn. It was once known for musical instruments, above all acoustic guitars.
