Feast of San Bartolomeo
📅 Every year, on 24 August
On 24 August Castelletto Molina, a municipality of 184 inhabitants in the province of Asti, celebrates its patron San Bartolomeo the apostle.
The castle of the Veggi counts, medieval in origin, has five towers: the main keep, round-based and truncated at the top; the prisoners' tower, with a battered base and a cylindrical body; the square guard tower; the Belvedere tower; and a corbelled lookout. The walls, once higher, still carry Ghibelline merlons and arrow slits, roofed over in the sixteenth century. Inside the circuit stand two buildings, one of them a private chapel; the Palazzo was probably rebuilt around 1670 by countess Ottavia Thea Porta.
The castle also appears in a sixteenth-century fresco by the friar Ignazio Danti of Perugia, in the Vatican Gallery. The town's arms spell out the name and show the building: gold letters C and M on red, then a black eagle, then a red castle with black brickwork and merlons, standing on green ground. Beside the castle is the medieval church of San Bartolomeo, destroyed entirely around the middle of the seventeenth century and later rebuilt.
