The patroness of Monastero Bormida is Saint Julia, celebrated on 22 May, to whom the Chiesa parrocchiale di Santa Giulia is dedicated.
The medieval square in front of the castle hosts every year, on the second Sunday of March, the Sagra del Polentone, whose origins go back to 1573: in the past, towards the end of Carnival, groups of copper workers called «magnin», coming from Haute-Savoie, passed through Monastero Bormida and made or repaired the «caudrin», copper cauldrons; today the great polenta is served with quintals of pork sausage and onion omelette, washed down with rivers of Barbera.
