Bioglio

Province: Biella · Region: Piedmont · Population: 986 · Postal code: 13841

The name Bioglio comes from betelleus, an adjective for the birch, perhaps in its medieval form bedolius, place of birches; in Piedmontese a birch is a biola. The land rises from the hamlet of Selva to the 889 metres of Monte Rovella, and the comune also holds an administrative island in the Valle Sessera, taking in the Cima dell'Asnas.

In 1964 Bioglio handed the hamlet of Pianezze to Camandona. At the foot of the Rovella stands the sanctuary of Banchette, named after the hamlet: a white plastered front, a two-arched porch on stone columns, a frescoed lunette over the door, a base left in bare stone.
