Lessona

Province: Biella · Region: Piedmont · Population: 2,835 · Postal code: 13853

The etymology is uncertain: either from laesa sum, "I am wounded", which would explain the arms, bearing five wounds that drip blood like the wounds of Christ; or from lex una, "one law alone".

Since 2016 Lessona has been a new comune, born of its merger with Crosa, and the arms of 2017 put the pieces of both together: the five wounds of old Lessona, the lion and the rose of Crosa, the cross on green — because cros, in Piedmontese, means cross but also crossroads — and bunches of grapes for the nebbiolo and vespolina vineyards.
