The commune came into being on the first of January 2019, from the merger of Cerreto Castello and Quaregna, which became its seat. The arms and the gonfalon arrived two years later, in 2021.
The two settlements of the suppressed communes have not blended: they remain distinct, and together they make a single urban centre. Quaregna Cerreto is counted among the comuni sparsi, and its name holds together two villages that go on being two.
