Saint Blaise, patron of the land of the Baragge
📅 Every year, on 3 February
Valdengo celebrates Saint Blaise on 3 February, in the church dedicated to him.
The vald in the name is Germanic and points to forest: the village was already there in Roman times, and the prefix suggests it was later refounded by people of German stock.
The church of Sant'Andrea turns up in a bull of 1184 as a Benedictine cell and was rebuilt in the seventeenth century; from the middle ages the castle with its ricetto and the chapel of Santa Caterina survive. The coat of arms is not its own: it repeats the bars of the Avogadro of Vigliano and Montecavallo. Until 1992 Valdengo belonged to the province of Vercelli.
