Verrone's name comes from a patronymic, Veronus or Verronius, traced to a Celto-Ligurian root meaning water: and Saint Verono, in his iconography, draws water from a slope with his staff. The village's arms are not its own: they repeat those of the Vialardi, lords of the fief: two red bands and a crowned black eagle.
Of the medieval castle the brick towers survive; one is round and carries a plastered octagonal lantern. The parish church of San Lorenzo began between the sixth and tenth centuries as a rectory of the pieve of Salussola; its porch is eighteenth-century, and a stained-glass Adoration of the Magi inside is attributed to Pietro Vaser of Geneva.
