On 29 September Arguello celebrates Saint Michael the Archangel; the village preserves a church dedicated to him.
Arguello is a small comune in the Alta Langa, province of Cuneo. Little is left of the Del Carretto castle: the rock it stood on was levelled, and at its foot sits the parish church of the Angeli Custodi, baroque, of the eighteenth century, reworked in the early twentieth. It replaced San Frontiniano, founded by the Benedictines of the Alba abbey of the same name and documented in the twelfth century. The fields here grow the white bean called gigante bianco di Spagna.
The arms are the surprise: on blue, a silver sailing ship, prow to the left, three masts and square sails, the central mast and sail larger than the rest. For a hill village far from the sea, local tradition explains it with a Spanish nobleman, lord of the place, said to have crossed many times to the New World in his caravel.
