Bagnolo Piemonte

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 6,040 · Postal code: 12031

Bagnolo moved. Until the fifteenth century the main settlement was at the Villar, where the castle of the local lords stood; around 1400 Amedeo of Achaia shifted the whole town to its present position, handier for trade and for the market. Of the Villar castle, which later passed to the House of Savoy, nothing is left: it was destroyed in 1592.

The town lives on stone, and the quarries have also brought here a Chinese community that has long since put down roots. In the hamlet of Montoso, a natural terrace looking over the Turin plain, the sanctuary of the Assumption is built of local Luserna stone and was raised by the volunteer work of quarrymen and masons from the place.
