Bossolasco

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 676 · Postal code: 12060

The name comes from the Latin Buxolascum, a place of box woods, and the arms repeat it: three green hills, the middle one taller and crowned with a box plant, three gold stars and a river. The village stands on a hill above the Belbo valley, and the first documents naming it are from 1077.

Nothing is left of the Del Carretto castle, which Visconti troops besieged and took in 1431: it fell into ruin in the seventeenth century and its stones went into the Balestrino castle, on piazza XX Settembre. The oldest part of the village huddles around that square, entered under a vaulted passage of stone and brick.
