Saint John the Baptist, patron of the land of the Langhe-Roero
📅 Every year, on 24 June
Castagnito celebrates Saint John the Baptist on 24 June, in the parish dedicated to him.
The arms of Castagnito tell the whole name: a chestnut branch with five leaves and two fruits, and beneath the shield its Latin form, Castanetum ad Tanagrum, the chestnut wood by the Tanaro. At the base are three silver wheels, the mark of the Roero.
The village sits on the hills left of the Tanaro, at three hundred and fifty metres, and its history begins in the twelfth century, among the lordships of the diocese of Asti and above all the Roero. In the parish church of the San Giuseppe hamlet stands a Berutti organ, given to the parish by the Burgo family of Turin.
