Priocca stands in the Roero, a hinge between the valleys of the Borbore and the Tanaro. In the early tenth century the Saracens, who had already levelled Asti, razed the Colle della Stella. The fief later went to the Damiano, lords of Castellinaldo, who held it for more than three centuries, until it died out.

When the last descendant died in 1813, the comune bought the castle from his heirs and pulled it down: the square is what was left. After the two wars many families left for Asti and Alba to find work, and the place half emptied; the recovery of the sixties filled it again. The parish church is dedicated to Santo Stefano.
