Castellinaldo d'Alba lies along a ridge in the Roero, above the Borbore, ten kilometres from Alba. The fief stayed split in two: in 1351 half went to the Malabayla of Asti, who built a castle east of the present one, demolished in the late nineteenth century. The Damiano bought the rest in the first half of the fifteenth century; their strongholds were absorbed into the castle that still stands above the village.
A bunch of grapes fills the coat of arms, and it says a lot: vines and fruit run the economy, the hills give Barbera d'Alba, Nebbiolo d'Alba, Roero superiore and Roero Arneis. The full name is recent: until 2015 it was just Castellinaldo.
