Vezza d'Alba

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 2,206 · Postal code: 12040

The name comes from the domini de Vicia, the local lords: the first document naming them is from 1228, when the diocese of Asti redeemed the fief. The earliest core of the castle above the village is traced to the Lombards, and on the nearby hill of San Martino stood a pieve, probably older still.

In 1401 the fief was sold to Oddone Roero, and the Roero stayed a long while. Then they left: at the beginning of the eighteenth century they moved to the castle of Guarene, because the one at Vezza had become obsolete for the needs of the time.
