Frabosa Soprana

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 815 · Postal code: 12082

Frabosa Soprana stands where the Maritime Alps begin, on the slopes of monte Moro, along the watershed between the Val Corsaglia and the Maudagna; the village joins an old core and the hamlet of Serro. It first appears in 1210, under the marquises of Saluzzo but in the diocese of Asti; in 1698 the Savoys made Soprana and Sottana draw the boundary, after years of quarrels.

In December 1877, at the Colla dei Termini, six olive-pickers died, five girls and a woman walking back from the Ligurian olive harvest to the hamlet of Fontane. A snowstorm caught them and help arrived too late; a panel on the pass recalls them.
