Piozzo

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,007 · Postal code: 12060

Piozzo looks out over the wine Langa from a hill in the province of Cuneo. The castle, raised in the fourteenth century by the Saluzzo-Cardè over an older fortification, was turned in 1638 by Goffredo Amedeo Vacca into a rich, imposing residence inside a park of gardens and fine trees. In November 1994 the swollen Tanaro reached Piozzo too, and the mayor of the day, Felice Boffa, pulled a trapped person out of a completely flooded house.

Of the thirteen churches and chapels in the comune, Santo Stefano is the one with the bare brick front and a frescoed panel above the door, the bell tower rising beside it with the clock.
