Roascio

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 83 · Postal code: 12073

Roascio, Roass in Piedmontese, is a hill village in the province of Cuneo, next to Ceva, with just over eighty residents split between the centre and the hamlets of San Rocco, Sant'Anna, San Giovanni and Mondoni. Since the census of 1911 its population has fallen by three quarters.

The marquises of Ceva were lords here by 1260; the fief then passed through so many hands that by the mid-sixteenth century it was split between two private owners, Giorgio Castrucci of Mondovì and Giuseppe Rabbio of Cuneo. The parish church is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, and the land lies in the growing area of the alta valle Belbo potato, known elsewhere as Mombarcaro's.
