Corneliano d'Alba

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 2,037 · Postal code: 12040

The name comes from the gens Cornelia: the place was a fundus of theirs, on the Roman road running from Alba to Turin. Of the castle built on the hill by the free communes, and wrecked in the wars of the sixteenth century, only the tower is left, with its ten sides.

At the sanctuary of Castellero, raised where a seventeenth-century country chapel stood, is the eighteenth-century house of the hermit, called here frà 'd Castlé: inside is a collection of two hundred and twenty-six votive paintings. At the entrance to the old centre stands an arch, put up by the House of Savoy after the fall of Napoleon.
