Piobesi d'Alba

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,248 · Postal code: 12040

Piobesi d'Alba sits on the road from Alba to Carmagnola, within the Roero. In 1928 the municipality was abolished and absorbed into Corneliano d'Alba; it was restored in 1946. Meanwhile the houses crept along the road, and today Piobesi and Corneliano form one continuous village: the boundary survives only on paper.

Nothing is left of the castle that stood on the hill beside the village. The countryside around produces Barbera d'Alba and Roero, and the Antica Distilleria Sibona opened here in 1900. On the Bricco di Piobesi stands the church of Maria Immacolata, with a long view; the one dedicated to San Rocco, among the houses, is seventeenth-century.
