Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, patron of the town of the ancient Falletti
📅 Every year, on 21 June
Villafalletto celebrates Saint Aloysius Gonzaga on 21 June.
The name comes from the Falletti, marquises of Barolo, who held the town as counts for almost half a millennium: from them the Latin Villafallettorum, and from that Villafalletto. Under them, in 1461, the community managed to give itself its first statutes; peace lasted until Christmas Eve 1487, when war with the marquisate of Saluzzo arrived.
Bartolomeo Vanzetti was born here, the anarchist who emigrated to the United States and was, with Nicola Sacco, condemned though innocent and executed in the electric chair in 1927. Part of his ashes came home: his sister Luigina brought them back, and they were laid in the family tomb. A plaque marks the house where he was born.
