On 24 June Vottignasco, a municipality of 547 inhabitants in the province of Cuneo, celebrates its patroness, the Madonna del Bosco.
Vottignasco lies on the plain between Savigliano and Villafalletto, the only two municipalities it borders; in Piedmontese, Votignasch. Two readings compete for the name: the suffix -asco may point to a Celtic origin, while a second brings in the Latin vitis or vitigenus, ground suited to the vine.
The coat of arms is pared down: a blue field, a silver band and two gold letters, a C above and a V below, with the motto Fervet opus. Out among the fields stands the sanctuary of the Madonna del Bosco, the village patron: a white front with blue trim, a curved gable under a cross, the dedication plaque over the door.
