Saint Eusebius, patron of the land of the Abbey of Santa Fede
📅 Every year, on 1 August
Cavagnolo celebrates Saint Eusebius on 1 August, in the church dedicated to him and Saint Secundus.
The name may come from the Celtic cabanne or the Latin cabannolum: either way, a hut, a shelter. The coat of arms says so plainly, with an eagle above for the Roman foundation and a hut below for the name. Outside the centre stands the Romanesque abbey of Santa Fede, raised by the Benedictines of Sainte-Foy: for a while it served as a stable and a pigsty.
In 1900 the first international rural bank in Italy was founded here. In 1928 Mussolini merged Cavagnolo with four neighbouring villages into a single comune, Brusasco-Cavagnolo, which was given arms of its own, a silver phoenix staring at four stars; in 1957 Cavagnolo took its independence back.
