Robella

Province: Asti · Region: Piedmont · Population: 504 · Postal code: 14020

The name Robella is said to come from Latin robur, the sessile oak, and the tree ended up on the arms: an uprooted oak with two golden acorns and crossed branches, grapes on one side, two ears of wheat on the other, with a crowned eagle on the black chief. Woodland, vineyard and field share the same shield.

The parish church of San Giacomo Apostolo is fourteenth-century in origin; its plastered front, closed by a pediment, leans on a bell tower of bare brick. The much-altered medieval castle became a manor house, and at Cortiglione, which has its own parish church of Sant'Eusebio, people call themselves cortiglionesi rather than robellesi.
