Cantoira

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 554 · Postal code: 10070

Cantoira lies in the Val Grande di Lanzo, and its name changes shape with the language: Cantòira in Piedmontese, Tchantoùeri in Franco-Provençal, Cantoire in French. The municipal land climbs from the houses of Boschietto to the summit of Monte Bellavarda, with woods and pasture in between. On 14 April 1577 it was granted in fief to Filippo I d'Este.

The parish church of Santi Pietro e Paolo holds the square with a facade banded in ochre and brick, three lobed oculi and a Latin inscription on the pediment. Outside the village stand the sanctuary of Santa Cristina and, at Rivirin, the stone miniatures.
