Until 1765 Mottera belonged to Bonzo, and for decades the two villages quarrelled over where the notice board should hang; the dispute ended with Mottera breaking away as a comune. In 1831 Chialamberto, Mottera and Vonzo were merged into one, and the seat went to Chialamberto, the smallest of the three: it lay in the middle, held the parish and kept that board.
The Romanesque bell tower of Santi Filippo e Giacomo is older than its own parish: the tower dates from the eleventh century, the parish only from the sixteenth. The arms show a cow on a green field; the name is said to come from the house of a Lamberti family, otherwise unknown.
