Saints Claudius and Dalmatius, patrons of the town of the rural chapels
📅 Every year, on the first Sunday of June
Castiglione Torinese celebrates Saints Claudius and Dalmatius on the first Sunday of June, in the parish church dedicated to them.
Castiglione has no single centre: it is made of four cores — La Rezza, Pedaggio, Castiglione Alto and, at its foot, San Rocco — plus houses scattered along the local roads. It lies north-east of Turin, between the Po and the wooded hill, in a land crossed by small streams and springs, some of them sulphurous.
The name comes from the diminutive of castrum, and the adjective Torinese was added by royal decree in 1862, because Piedmont has three places called Castiglione. Of the castle of the Turinetti only a few walls and the chapel are left. Under fascism the town was merged with Gassino and was re-established in 1947; the via Francigena passes through here.
