Settimo Torinese

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 46,873 · Postal code: 10036

Settimo — "ad septimum lapidem", at the seventh milestone from Turin — is the town that signed millions of pages: the Aurora factory has made fountain pens here since relocating in the 1940s, and a tradition of pens and housewares shaped the local industrial identity. Reconversion brought spaces like the Archimede library, among Piedmont's busiest.

Along the Po and its canals, the Freidano ecomuseum tells of mills and washermen; the medieval tower holds out in the centre. Turin is ten minutes away: Settimo is its north-eastern gate, concrete and in transformation.
