Colleretto Giacosa

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 603 · Postal code: 10010

Until 1953 the village was called Colleretto Parella; the new name honours Giuseppe Giacosa, the playwright and librettist born here. Earlier, in 1929, a royal decree had wiped the comune out, merging it with Loranzè, Parella, Quagliuzzo and Strambinello into a single one called Pedanea; in 1947 the five got their autonomy back.

The church of the Finding of the Holy Cross has a yellow and white front with pilasters and a frescoed roundel over the door; beside it stands a brick bell tower with paired windows and a clock, set on the bare rock, and two white pillars mark the way in.
