Strambinello

Strambinello (Strambinel in Piedmontese) is a Canavese village above the Chiusella, crossed here by the Ponte dei Preti, a masonry bridge of the eighteenth century. Its castle is documented from the twelfth century and stood as a forward post towards the other castles of the Pedanea. In 1387 the tuchinaggio — the revolt that set the Canavese communities against their feudal lords at the end of the fourteenth century — besieged and destroyed it, with others nearby.

Rebuilt, it was split in the nineteenth century among middle-class families who made it farmstead, store and stables; since the eighties restoration has brought it back as a hotel. Pedanea is also the name a decree gave in 1929 to the comune that merged Strambinello with Loranzè, Colleretto Giacosa, Parella and Quagliuzzo: the five recovered their separate standing only in 1947. The parish church is dedicated to Saint Hilary.
