Parella lies in the Canavese, north of Turin, and under Fascism it stopped existing: a decree of 1929 merged it with Loranzè, Colleretto Giacosa, Quagliuzzo and Strambinello into one comune, named Pedanea. In 1947 the five took back their names and their autonomy.
Above the roofs stands the fourteenth-century tower: courses of stone alternating with bands of brick and, at the top, the machicolations on small hanging brick arches. It belonged to the San Martino di Parella manor, destroyed perhaps during the Tuchini revolt. The castle, built in the seventeenth century over the remains of a medieval building, has three floors, frescoed rooms and a garden.
