Forno Canavese

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 3,612 · Postal code: 10084

The name comes from the lime kilns scattered across the territory: the trade mattered so much that the arms show a kiln, with the Latin motto Virtus et labor ad solium ducunt, "virtue and labour lead to the throne". Until 1926 the town was called Forno di Rivara.

In the hamlet of Cimapiasole stands the chapel of San Bernardo, opened on 4 September 1497; inside it keeps a fresco and an inscription in Gothic letters dating from the building's foundation. The land climbs from the first Canavese hills to the top of Monte Soglio, at 1971 metres.
