The arms carry a mountain of eleven peaks under a golden comet, and beneath it a line that reads almost like an advertisement: SALUBRIOR HISCE MONTIBUS AER, the air on these hills is healthier. In the second half of the nineteenth century the village became the meeting place of the painters known as the Scuola di Rivara.

In 1474 the castle was made a tribunal of the Inquisition, and some women of Levone, then part of its lands, were tried there: accused of witchcraft, they were condemned to the stake. A few decades earlier, during the Tuchinaggio revolt, things had gone otherwise here: terms were agreed with the lords and the disputes settled, with the marquis of Monferrato as arbiter.
