Pratiglione

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 548 · Postal code: 10080

Pratiglione — Prajon in Piedmontese — lies in the Canavese, north of Turin. The old name Prata Leonis appears in the 1014 deed by which the emperor Henry II gave the village to the Benedictine abbey of Fruttuaria. The arms put that name into a picture: a golden lion on a blue field, its hind paw on natural ground.

The land climbs to Monte Soglio, whose summit is where four municipalities meet: Pratiglione, Corio, Forno Canavese and Sparone. In the mid-nineteenth century the village was left for the United States by the maternal great-great-grandfather of Tom Morello, the guitarist of Rage Against the Machine.
