Grugliasco's parish church, recorded from 1047 and rebuilt from the seventeenth century, with its bell tower apart.
The church of the Spirito Santo is at Gerbido, a hamlet of Grugliasco, a few metres from the boundary with the Turin district of Mirafiori Nord; its parish belongs to the archdiocese of Turin. A first chapel was probably built in the second half of the sixteenth century. At the beginning of the following century it was replaced by a larger one, the present building, with its bell tower. Between 1984 and 1987 the building was enlarged and restored.
The façade is of exposed brick. An inscription lists the names of the people of Gerbido who fell in the Great War, and below it is another, smaller one, with those of two inhabitants who died in the following world war. Above the doorway is a sundial.
The interior has a single rectangular nave, covered by cross vaults that divide it into three bays. The design of a pulpit is attributed to Filippo Juvarra.
It is a parish church: opening and Mass times should be checked with the parish, which has its own website.
The church owes something to a will: Signora Isabella Bigino named the chapel her sole heir, and so left funds for the church.
The Museo del Grande Torino e della Leggenda Granata is in Grugliasco, in Villa Claretta Assandri. It is devoted to the Torino football team that died on 4 May 1949 in the Superga air disaster: the plane bringing it home from Lisbon crashed into the embankment of the basilica, on the hill above Turin, and of the thirty-one people on board none survived. The museum was opened on 4 May 2008, on the fifty-ninth anniversary.
The remains of the aircraft are kept here: among them a propeller, a tyre and scattered pieces of the fuselage.
There are also the suitcases of three of the victims: Valentino Mazzola, the captain, the defender Virgilio Maroso and Ernő Egri Erbstein, the team's technical director.
Days, opening times and admission arrangements should be checked on the museum's website before going.
Look at the house that holds the museum too. Villa Claretta Assandri was built in the second half of the seventeenth century and stands in via La Salle, within a large walled garden.
