In 1836, the French novelist Honoré de Balzac stayed as a guest of Count Cesare Benevello in the imposing medieval castle of Rivalta di Torino. An inscription in the courtyard still commemorates his visit. The fortress, now entered via a stone bridge that replaced its original drawbridge, marks the historical center where the settlement first took shape during the 11th century.
A local branch of the Orsini family maintained ownership of both the castle and the village until 1823. Today, the municipality is home to roughly 19,200 residents. Situated in the Sangone valley about 14 kilometers southwest of Turin, it functions as part of the broader metropolitan area.
