Lusigliè

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 556 · Postal code: 10080

Lusigliè lies wholly in the alluvial plain of the Orco, whose water feeds its irrigation channels. Several ideas circulate about the name: the old forms Lusiniacum and Lusignacum, with the Celtic suffix -acum, would point to a very old settlement. The name first appears in a document of 1019.

At the end of the fourteenth century the village gave itself its own statutes. Nothing is left of the Biandrate castle: wrecked by the French marching on Turin, it was sold to a local master mason, who took it apart for building material. And from 1927 until after the war Lusigliè was not Turinese but Aostan.
