The name comes from a number: here stood the Castrum Nonum, a Roman camp that lay ad nonum, at the ninth Roman mile from Turin's porta Marmorea, and the Chisola stream itself was once called the Nono. The first records are from the second century; then came the barbarian raids and the site was abandoned.
The village was reborn under the lords of Piossasco, who never managed to fortify it: the castle was designed after the fright of Catinat's French troops at the end of the seventeenth century, but was built only in 1815, and on a more modest scale. The baroque church of Saints Gervasius and Protasius dates from 1720.
