Saint Prosper, patron of the land of the Castle Tower
📅 Every year, on the first Sunday of September
Romano Canavese celebrates Saint Prosper on the first Sunday of September.
Of the medieval ricetto the gates remain: the north one keeps the marks of its drawbridge, the south one leans against a stone tower, and against that southern gate stands the church of Santa Marta, of the early thirteenth century, its front redone in baroque. In the middle of the park rises the fourteenth-century communal tower: the bell cell was added in the nineteenth.
The parish church of Santi Pietro e Solutore came much later: begun in 1829 to a design by Maurizio Storero of Ivrea and finished in 1843 by Giovanni Pessatti. An earlier design, by the architect Ferdinando Bonsignore, was never built. Outside the town lies a marsh recognised as a site of community importance.
