Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi
📅 Every year, on 4 October
On 4 October San Francesco al Campo celebrates its patron and namesake, Saint Francis of Assisi, whose name became part of the village's own.
The town sits on the Vauda plateau north-west of Turin, and the name of the plateau comes from the Old German Wald, which meant forest. The northern part of its territory falls inside the Vauda nature reserve.
Here stands one of the most important velodromes in Italy, the Francone, built thanks to the bequest of an enthusiast and named after him. It opened in 1996 and has a 400 metre track with curves banked at thirty-two degrees; a federal cycling school is based there.
