Front

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,726 · Postal code: 10070

Front lies at the south-western edge of the Canavese, on the rim of the Vaude plateau; its land takes in part of the Malone's flood plain and the Fandaglia and Riomaggiore valleys. In the early Middle Ages the Lombards built three castles on the rises along the Malone, on the border of the marquisates of Turin and Ivrea, where Lombardore, Rivarossa and Front stand today.

The bishopric of Ivrea made its first pastoral visit in 1326. In the last twenty years of the fourteenth century the Canavese rose against its feudal lords in the Tuchinaggio revolt, and Front joined in against the counts of San Martino, who held the place.
