Varisella

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 830 · Postal code: 10070

Varisella lies in the Val Ceronda, above the Ceronda stream. The village's history belongs to the Visconti di Baratonia, who took their name from a settlement further down the valley, now a hamlet. Their castle is a ruin; at Baratonia the church of San Grato sets a pale rendered front against a flank left bare, with the bell tower rising past the roof.

In 1927 Varisella lost its standing as a comune and became a hamlet of Fiano; it was made independent again in 1954. On the ridge towards the Givoletto basin, Monte Lera holds the strict nature reserve of the Madonna della Neve.
