The name of Vestignè may go back to the Latin estate-name Vestinius, perhaps of the third century, through the forms Vestiniacus and Vetignago; Celtic settlements of the Salassi probably came first. One oddity shows only on a map: the hamlet of Tina does not touch the rest of the comune, lying well north along the road to Ivrea, past Caravino.
The Naviglio d'Ivrea, a fourteenth-century irrigation canal, crosses the village; Leonardo da Vinci is said to have been called in on the scheme during his Milanese years. The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta e San Germano closes at the top with a frescoed pediment over an arched window.
